  24 Hours to Departure

As I write here in my house in Saratoga, Ca I have less than 24 hours before I get on a plane to New York. I got to visit with many friends but sadly not all, though I look forward to people visiting me in New York and of course my return in winter. As I prepare for departure a memory returns to me from kindergarten. Kind of strange that I'm thinking of my days playing with blocks and trying to earn self control badges as I'm poised on the brink of entering graduate school but minds work in mysterious ways. Anyway, back then my mom was in Green Circle and she used to come to our class and teach little lessons and activities. What comes to mind is a song we used to sing in a round. The lyrics were:

Make new friends but keep the old;
One is silver and the other gold.

I'm sure that I'll make tons of new friends in the coming days but nothing can reduce the value of my old friends, most of whom I hope to cherish for many years to come. For those friends reading this, please keep in touch and I'll try to be back before we have time to miss each other.

Curious? Then read on. If not go watch TV or find some other way to rot your brain :-P
