  Return of the Blog

After a long hiatus I have returned to blogging. I'll attempt to summarize recent happenings. Finals were relatively brutal. I did study fairly hard, in spite of having no notes. Spent a lot of time in Butler, the undergrad library. It's much prettier than the law library and in Diamond and Drapkin there was a palpable aura of stress that I was loath to experience on a daily basis. I went to some TA review sessions, which this late in the semester weren't going to change anything and also attended Chanukah parties nightly. One with just law students, another with all Jewish Grads, another with LGBT undergrads (I thought it was going to be a grad dinner, oops!), latke making and eating with Koach, and a few menorah lightings with friends and colleagues at a buddy's appartment. Contracts was my first exam and it was a 24 hour take home. I used 15 of the 24 hours and still didn't feel I sufficiently proofread and edited my exam. Even so, I feel the most positive about that exam, but since everyone else also thought they did best in Contracts, it probably won't matter because we're all on a curve. Next came civ pro. I studied with a friend for a change but we didn't cover enough breadth of material and the depth we covered I didn't have time to demonstrate on the exam (we were given an exam that should have taken at least 4 hours but were only given 3:15). The exam was excrutiating. This was our first in class exam and I must admit I sort of panicked. I don't know why. I didn't think, reason, or write clearly, I just spat thought into my keyboard and tried to coagulate them into some semblance of an answer. Torts went about the same, another in class. I'm normally very good at in class essays so I don't know what went wrong this time or why I couldn't focus. Maybe I didn't study right. I'm not very optimistic about my grades but I won't get them probably until February anyway. I had a friend visit from California right after finals and we went to a party at another 1L's apartment to pseudo-celebrate the end of the semester. The first snowfall for New York also came around that time so I got to see it before heading back to California. I missed my flight unfortunately due to subway delays but I managed to get on standby 3 hours later and eventually arrived home. Since getting back I've been writing letters to law firms requesting employment and receiving a steady stream of rejections in the mail. I've also tried to ee a few old friends a day and catch up on how their lives are going since I tend to get out of touch in NY. Lastly I've been doing some reading since there is never time during school for non-legal books. I wanted to read The Da Vinci Code to see what everyone has been raving about but it was all checked out at every library around here. It isn't the sort of book I care to own so I'll just wait until the furor winds down. So far I've gone through a bunch of short sci-fi and South American stories, The Prisoner of Zenda, The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus (which served to remind me why Shakespeare is vastly superior to Christopher Marlow), and Utopia. Nothing too long or heavy, I'm just not in the mood. I went for a few runs/walks up in the surrounding hills on the sunny days but mainly it's been raining and dreary here. My house is cold as usual and less than pleasant. I still suffer from a heavy heart and I'm not sure when I'll find the cure, though I hope sooner rather than later. At least the clouds are interesting. Ever since I was a small child I've enjoyed watching clouds for some reason.

Curious? Then read on. If not go watch TV or find some other way to rot your brain :-P
