Cage
Manhattan is a cage. A gilded cage of culture and society, but a cage nonetheless. I think that's one of the reasons I'm not a huge fan. It's an itty bitty island; water on all sides prevents leaving. Skyscrapers blocking out the sky. Concrete choking the ground. Nothing natural can grow here. No car for escape. The subway a poor substitute for open roads, underground, bereft of fresh air or sunlight. Tunnels fit for moles, not men.
