Barrister's Ball
Due to erratic sleep schedule and social events I've gotten off a day so I'll try to set the blog straight. Yesterday (Saturday) I arrived home at 6 and slept until noon. Then proceeded to blow off the rest of the day lounging and playing poker online. Too hard to get work done when my circadian rhythms are out of whack. Got cleaned up and out of my pajamas around 7. Squeezed into my tux. I've never found a tux to be comfortable but apparently they are far less so as they get to be on the small side. Picked up my date at her place and took the subway to Citrus for dinner. But they didn't accept reservations and the wait was over an hour. So we went walking around on Columbus for another option. Finally we settled on an Italian place, Brucolino, and had a nice dinner. The wait staff was very attentive and for such a small restaurant the place was swarming with waiters. The chef was Italian and he did a nice job. I had salmon with a very tasty mustard and my date had pasta. We tried to take the subway back up to campus but the 1/9 still skips to 137 or something. She wasn't going to walk any further in heels so we got a cab. By the time we got to the ball it was about 10:30, but since it started at 9, things were still warming up. The Low Library was gorgeous. I have always liked the building, but when there are tables all around decorated with rose petals and there are 6 bars set up, it is even better. The music was pretty good and it was great to see all my classmates in black tie. They cleaned up remarkably, it was hard to even recognize many of them. Drank a LOT. Almaretto, gin and tonic, vodka cranberry, corona, champaign, the list goes on. I definitely lost track. The open bars actually started to run out of things by the end. Law students are fish. Danced a lot and had a good time. Walked my date home around 2:30 and got back myself around 3. Not conducive to a healthy sleep schedule.
Today I woke up fairly late and got to work on my scholarship application. Did that most of the day and cleaned up my room a bit. Made stir fry with tofu for lunch. Had a friend come up from NYU to watch "Big Fish" and eat pizza in the evening. The movie was pretty sad. I don't like sad movies. I'll grudgingly admit it was a good film though.
