Life in Moo Town
Journal
Someone posted a question about being a 1L on a journal and how that is possible. There are two journals here that accept 1Ls to my knowledge. The Journal of Eastern European Law and the Journal of Gender and Law. I thought writing for a journal would be a good experience and would improve my blue booking skills so I joined JGL because the subject matter also interested me. I'm a strong advocate for women's rights and LGBT rights. I don't know what the process is for the other journal but JGL accepts pretty much anyone who is willing to do the work. Hope that answers the question.
Catch Up
Do to technical difficulties (my hard drive died over break) I've gotten seriously behind in my blogging. I'll attempt to relate some highlights that bear recording but this by no means will be complete.
Cleary Gottlieb Lunch
Slept through crim law and got up to go to a CSIL lunch at Cleary. Remarkably I wasn't hung over. I felt great. Strange considering Thursday I ate nothing but junk food and drank nothing but alcohol from noon until 4AM essentially. I must have an extra liver or something. The firm was located in an imposing black sky scraper next to ground zero in the financial district. On the inside it was really nice though. And the lunch was possibly the best yet. Rivals Skadden for best building. The view from the 39th floor was incredble. You could see the whole of Manhattan on one side, New Jersey on another, and Brooklyn/Queens on another. Of course there was a great Hudson River view too on 3 sides. At 6 I went to Hillel for Shabbat and then had dinner at my Barnard friends' apartment. It was crepe night, always a fun time.
Matisyahu
By Thursday I was just itching to be done with the week. Had the last senate meetign of the year at lunch. Oral argument practice for Moot Court after school. Caught a piece of a lecture on Law and Philosophy at 5 then went to the PILF mixer at 6 for beer and junk food. Only could stay half an hour 'cause I had to go hear the megillah reading at Hillel. It was a good reading and lots of people were in costume. Met up with my Barnard friends and went to the Purim Carnival at McIntosh. There was popcorn and cotton candy but they didn't order enough sandwiches. We saw the Purim shpiel (a funny play put on by some students) and hung out for a while. Went to Tom's for a rushed dinner 'cause there was a lack of food earlier. From there we went to the Matisyahu concert at Lerner. Unfortunately we got there on the late side and tickets were sold out. I was supposed to get extra tickets for a friend visiting from CA and we ended up having to get them from usurious scalpers. Oh well. Happens. The concert was a lot of fun but Matisyahu wasn't that great. I mean for a Chabadnik I guess he was, but the music was kinda slow for my taste. After the concert I went to the Parlour for a 1L party put on by student senate. It was a blast. 3 hours and 6 drinks later I took a cab home with some neighbors. Stopped by Koronets for a slice on the way. A lot of other 1Ls trickled through the restaurant throughout the hour we were there. Discussed politics and economics, ate our slices and got home around 4.
Sage Lunch
Wednesday I had lunch with professor Sage and I'm going to see if he can give me some job advice next week. We went to an Indian place on 121st or so. The lamb was ok.
West Law Perks
Went to a West Law training session Tues. Got a movie ticket, a leather portfolio, 1000 West Law points, and a $25 American Express gift certificate for 45 minutes of my time. I love the perks of law school. In the evening I went to an IP reception at Terrace in the Sky with Weil Gotshal. The attorneys were pretty nice, didn't have time to drink much though because I had a journal meeting at 8. After journal I went to Nacho's with a friend for beer and nachos. The beer was good, the nachos were not. Ran into a friend from Barnard while at the restaurant. Good times.
Brooklyn Legal Services
Monday I had a phone interview with Brooklyn Legal Services and I got an offer. Before accepting I'll need to see about funding of course. I also want to see how the in house counsel positions go. If I get offers from them too I'll have options. In the evening I went to the Wachtell reception. I had been tempted by the idea of making $250,000 starting salary and all the prestige that comes with working for the top NY firm but after meeting the attorney's that dream evaporated. No one I talked to worked less than 2700 hours last year and many worked over 3000. They had a cot room so attorneys could sleep without even leaving the office. When I asked one attorney why he was willing to work so hard he explained that the firm gives him everything he wants. Then he went off about how they gave him an electric stapler. Images from office space were running through my head at this point. Any place that people are willing to be enslaved for perks like electric staplers and money they have no time to spend is not a place for me. One partner had a wife and 3 kids who he said he "didn't see as much as I would like" (aka never) but was unwilling to give up the salary to have more time with them. I may be a budding corporate tool but I am definitely not
that bad!
Hudson Highland Interview
Friday was the last day of Spring break. I had a friend from CA in town so I met him for lunch at a midtown Deli. I don't remember the name but I wouldn't recommend it anyway. It was expensive and my corned beef sandwich was really dry. We also went for a stroll at the New York Public Library. I didn't find it all that impressive but it's a nice building. From there I walked to the East Side for an interview with Hudson Highland, a company that handles executive headhunting and needs a legal intern to work on some Sarbannes Oaxley compliance stuff. I think the interview went well. Should hear about a callback soon. Went to AISH Ha Torah for shabbat down on 83rd. Foolishly I walked. Took me forever and my feet got very tired. I met some interesting people, though the crowd was all older. The food was ok but I'm not eager to go back anytime too soon. Not really my scene and the AISH rabbis have always kinda scared me. They are like Chabad without the uniform.
St. Patrick's Day
Had an interview in the afternoon by phone with Genentech. Hope it went well, it looks like my best shot at getting back to California for the summer. I didn't go to the St. Patrick's Day parade on 5th Ave because I got up late and then I didn't want to be away from the phone when the interviewer called but I saw some on TV. I really need to go next year. I called up an Irish-American 1L friend to go pub crawling in the evening. Her roomate and some of her roomate's friends came along too. It was the best evening I'd had in a long time. We went to
Tir na Nog by 34th St. at Penn Plaza. They were charging $10 cover but we went in anyway. They had a great live Irish band (I absolutely love Irish music 'cause my parents used to always play it on road trips) but the drinks were really pricey. Like 7 bucks for a beer. We drank it up anyway and danced and sang and generally had an amazing time. Some blond girl tried to pick me up but lost interest when she figured out how old I really am (she was 28 and thought I was 26). Still a nice ego boost. Got a ride home 'cause one of our party had a car. Way more convenient than subway or cab. On the way back we stopped at Tom's to satisfy our munchies.
Israeli Consulate Interview
The weekend was pretty dull. Watched TV, got a haircut, set up a phone interview with Genentech for Thursday, emailed back Microsoft about visiting WA, sent my expense report to BD for a reimbursement, worked a bit on my memo, picked up my dry cleaning and did my laundry. Nothing monumental. Today I had an interview with the Israeli Consulate, the embassy to the UN. They needed a speech writer and I seemed to have all the credentials. Although one of the women interviewing me did ask how old I was...apparently I look overly young when I shave or something. It sounded like an amazing job. Writing letters to Kofi Annan, speeches to the general assembly...then halfway through the interview we realized there was a problem. There was a miscommunication in the job posting. It wasn't a summer position, they were looking for a full time employee for the next year. Bummer. Waste of everyone's time. I put in a good word for a friend who is interviewing there next week and went home. Too bad. Was fiddling around and puttering in my room and finally I just couln't stand it anymore. Nobody wanted to go out so I headed to the Jewish Museum on 92st and 2nd Ave. Took a train then a bus to get there. It was closed. Turns out they changed their schedule 2 years ago. I'd come too far to go back so I just started walking. Went down the museum mile, poked my head into the Goethe Library, and window shopped down Madison Ave. I walked all the way to midtown. Just couldn't stand being cooped up in an apartment box any longer. Stopped in at the Whitney Museum to see a huge set of pipes made of inflated platic balloons. Didn't get to hear them play unfortunately, I would have had to wait 40 minutes. Instead I went next door into Tump Tower and poked around a bit. Pretty glitzy building. Lots of mirrors. And pictures of Trump everywhere. Total ego edifice. Walked from the East side to Times Square and hung out there for quite a while. Grabbed a burrito from some Chipotle place on the way 'cause I was starving. As expected, they don't hold a candle to Mexican food from CA. Indulged in some honey roasted peanuts from a street vendor in the square. I love the smell. And they keep your hand warm when it's 33 out as it was this evening. Finally took the subway down to 14th to hang out with a friend and watch Garden State. Was not a fan. It just didn't do anything for me.
Shabbat at OZ
Slept through crim but went to Reg State for the first Friday I can remember in a long time. Had a bunch of cheerios for lunch after. Generally hung out for a while and went to shabbat at Ohab Zedek on 95th with a friend at 5:45. Services there were ok, wasn't really feeling it. Modern Orthodox shul, all young professionals, mid 20's to 30's exclusively. A little old for my tastes. Met up with another friend there and went to her place in the lower 90's for dinner. All the other guests were older, a vocalist, my friend's 30+ roomate, and 2 lawyers. Not a bad time though. Good food and fairly calm. Went to a Community Oneg at a youth hostel. Tikvat Yisrael, Kehilat Orach Eliezer (KOE), Kol Zimrah, Darkhei Noam, Selah and other groups sponsored the event. It wasn't terribly exciting and at around midnight I went home. I miss CA Jews.
NAPABA Law Foundation Inaugural Gala Dinner
Slept through crim but made it to the senate meeting at 12:30. Had to actually buy lunch at Lenfest Cafe, there was no pizza out sadly. The meeting was rather heated as we were debating a resolution in response to the Solomon Amendment. Had a discussion later in the day with a student on my position (I'm very anti-JAG/ROTC so long as they discriminate against homosexuals) and I'll see where things go from there. Went to reg state and con law like a semi-good student and got an email during con law from Paul Weiss directed to APALSA saying they had two extra tickets to a Gala that Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was supposed to attend. Of course I jumped at the opportunity, though I felt a little weird, not being Asian and all. Still, figured it would be a good cultural experience. I got waitlisted for the tickets but a spot cleared for me later in the afternoon. I guessed it would be black tie optional and I was right. I just threw on a black suit and hit the subway, sooo not in the mood to weat a tux again yet. Turns out even student tickets to the gala started at $160. Thank goodness Paul Weiss picked up the tab. Pretty nice location. The Essex House just South of Central Park by Columbus Circle. The event started with drinks (of course) but I didn't have any connections there so I kind of wandered and tried to blend in as the lone young white guy. I found one other Columbia student and after 45 minutes and we hung out for the rest of the evening. I think I was the youngest one there though. We went in to dinner at 7:30. The first course was salmon over japanese rice salad, followed by fillet mignon (a little gamey for my taste) in a cabernet sauce with asparagus and wild mushroom fricasee and some sort of gratin dauphinois. Dessert was a chocolate ginger blackout cake. It was covered in a gelato-like substance and topped with gold leaf. Also fruit on the side. Very tasty. There were lots of speeches, including Chief Judge Schroeder of the 9th Circuit. Wouldn't mind clerking for her this summer...Seeing if I can pull some strings along those lines. Never hurts to meet people at these big social events. Met some nice people with PAul Weis' litigation department too. Not a bad evening.
Quinn Emanuel
Slept through my alarm yesterday and missed Perspectives. Felt pretty bad about it. A friend was nice enough to send me notes. Threw my whole schedule off too. Meant to go to class, then the gym, then lunch. Just caught up at lunch instead. It was at Faculty House with Quinn Emanuel and it was pretty cool. Usual boxed sandwiches and all but they handed out sandals and t-shirts too. Kinda fun. Instead of jabbering away the attorneys gave us a very to-the-point session on how to cross examine a witness by showing us movie clips including clips from My Cousin Vinnie (a personal fav of mine). Went to reg state after lunch and tried to read con law during class. Finished up in the drapkin lounge during the break. Still working on abortion cases, Roe the day before and now Planned Parenthood v Casey. Con law was fairly interesting as usual and I got some good new via email besides. Microsoft wants to fly me out to Washington for a callback interview! Very exciting. Current status is that Microsoft and BD look promising, I doubt I'll get an offer from the Chilean firm, and two departments of Brooklyn Legal Services are trying to set up interviews with me: Comprehensive Rights Unit serving the HIV infected and affected in Kings County and the is trying to set up an interview as possibly is Human Rights First. Also I just got a call from the Israeli Delegation to the UN and they set up an interview with me for Tuesday to possibly work as a speech writer. Sounds interesting. With all these possibilities someone has to hire me. I hope. Or I can live in a cardboard box this summer. We'll see. Anyway, back to yesterday's happenings. Got quarters in the afternoon and helped a friend grocery shop and then had a snack at his place. Then at 6:30 there was an IP law panel in JG102. Started out excrutiatingly boring but picked up from there. Got an attorney's card since I keep running into her and maybe it will help come EIP in August. There are worse things in the world than working for Paul Weiss. There was a reception after the panel in Drapkin lounge. Went through a Seagrams 7, a (very bad) apple martini, and a (relatively bad) Bordeaux. The food wasn't great so I took off with a buddy for the Quinn Emanuel reception at Le Monde. A little better fare. Had an almaretto sour and a midori sour. Midori is nasty. Note to self, stop drinking green things. Went to a friend’s place after and tried to get ie cream but it had closed an hour previously. Ended up trading her a canoli for some sewing work. We ended up playing some trivial pursuit with my roommates too.
LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene, and MacRae
Fun times. Went to crim late this morning. It was raining but I went in shorts anyway. Nothing interesting anyway. Hit the gym and rowed 20 minutes and did abs. It was snowing pretty hard, but I didn't feel cold in shorts. Got cleaned up, suited up, and went to lunch with JLSA. There was kosher falafel and a speaker on legal methods being employed in securing holocaust reparations from Poland. Interesting talk. Did my con law reading after lunch and attended the class. Then had an interview with Microsoft's Redmond, Washington office. I think it went pretty well. Did some work for Journal of Gender and Law in the afternoon to be ready for the meeting in the evening. At 6 there was a moot court oral arguments workshop. Stayed through half. Then left with a friend for V&T's for a reception with LeBoeuf. It was pretty nasty outside. In the 20's and high winds. The pavement was all frozen over. The attendance at the reception was dismally low, but they bought us dinner, pizza and salad, and drinks of course. I got started on scotch and then split a bottle of wine with my friend. It was a a sparkling dry Italian wine. Tasty. I was running late for Journal and about to leave but then they started ordering us dessert. What was I to do? I called two friends on Journal and asked them to deliver my comments for me. The firm bought two of everything on the menu. And I got cappacino. I ate some of the strawberry covered cheesecake, some of the chocolate/vanilla stripe cheesecake, some of the tiramisu, and a canoli. The cheesecakes were ok, the tiramisu was nothing special, but the canoli was great. I brought my roomate a piece of the striped cheesecake and i took a canoli that will go to whomever sews two buttons for me. Went to JGL but got held up by the wind. It was ferocious. Nearly blew my scarf away. VERY cold. In the teens even without the ridiculous windchill. I ran into a journal member on the way walking the opposite direction. The meeting ended early. Offered her a dessert but she declined. Went home since there was no sense in trudging a few more blocks to a meeting that was over.
Chilean and BD Interviews
Got suited up and printed out all my interviewing materials this morning. Caught the last 20 minutes of Perspectives and went to the 7th floor of Jerome Green Hall to interview with Barros y Errazuriz, a law firm based in Santiago, Chile. I was pretty nervous because of the foreign language issue and since I didn't have breakfast my mouth was pretty dry. I did what I could, but I don't think I came off that well and I wasn't feeling much of a connection with my interviewers. I don't think they liked me. Too bad. I would probably take the job if it were offered. Got a bagel on my way home. Polished up my application for the Irell and Manella Prize and submitted it before getting on the train for my next interview at BD, an international biotech company with corporate headquarters in NJ. Took me two hours to get there. Took the subway to Penn station, then the NJ PATH train to Ridgewood, then a cab to Franklin Lakes. 2 hours travel time in all. And about $30. Not viable as a daily commute. Also, while I thought New York was bad, NJ really takes the cake. They don't call it the armpit of America for nothing. Really ugly state. Lots of industry and tiny houses. I was early to my interview and the woman I was supposed to meet couldn't make it so someone else took my around. I interviewed with 3 attorneys instead of the usual 4. The first two I think went well, the third was a bit shakey because I was burned out and needed food. It was going on 6PM and all I'd eaten was a bagel. The facilities were nice enough but they are in the middle of nowhere. I'm a little concerned about maintaining a social life if I work there this summer. I'll cross that bridge when and if I come to it. The work sounded very interesting at least and most of the people were very nice. Good hours too. But what's the point of free time if you have nothing to do? Hmmm. Guess I could do some scholarly work and write some articles for publication or get a side research job for a professor or something. Maybe they won't make me an offer anyway. Should find out in a couple weeks. Took the cab company over 30 minutes to send someone to pick me up but in spite of my starvation I made it home before gorging myself for two straight hours on pizza and stirfry. Became very thirsty. Seems to be a growing trend. Did some con law and IMing. Tomorrow I have an interview with Microsoft. I really hope I get an offer from at least 1 of the 3. If I don't I'll start feeling desperate.
Barrister's Ball
Due to erratic sleep schedule and social events I've gotten off a day so I'll try to set the blog straight. Yesterday (Saturday) I arrived home at 6 and slept until noon. Then proceeded to blow off the rest of the day lounging and playing poker online. Too hard to get work done when my circadian rhythms are out of whack. Got cleaned up and out of my pajamas around 7. Squeezed into my tux. I've never found a tux to be comfortable but apparently they are far less so as they get to be on the small side. Picked up my date at her place and took the subway to Citrus for dinner. But they didn't accept reservations and the wait was over an hour. So we went walking around on Columbus for another option. Finally we settled on an Italian place, Brucolino, and had a nice dinner. The wait staff was very attentive and for such a small restaurant the place was swarming with waiters. The chef was Italian and he did a nice job. I had salmon with a very tasty mustard and my date had pasta. We tried to take the subway back up to campus but the 1/9 still skips to 137 or something. She wasn't going to walk any further in heels so we got a cab. By the time we got to the ball it was about 10:30, but since it started at 9, things were still warming up. The Low Library was gorgeous. I have always liked the building, but when there are tables all around decorated with rose petals and there are 6 bars set up, it is even better. The music was pretty good and it was great to see all my classmates in black tie. They cleaned up remarkably, it was hard to even recognize many of them. Drank a LOT. Almaretto, gin and tonic, vodka cranberry, corona, champaign, the list goes on. I definitely lost track. The open bars actually started to run out of things by the end. Law students are fish. Danced a lot and had a good time. Walked my date home around 2:30 and got back myself around 3. Not conducive to a healthy sleep schedule.
Today I woke up fairly late and got to work on my scholarship application. Did that most of the day and cleaned up my room a bit. Made stir fry with tofu for lunch. Had a friend come up from NYU to watch "Big Fish" and eat pizza in the evening. The movie was pretty sad. I don't like sad movies. I'll grudgingly admit it was a good film though.
NYU Shabbat for 1000
Couldn't get up yesterday so I slept through crim. Went to the gym and ran 20 min and did some light weights before jumping into business casual for lunch at Shearman Sterling. They're located on the East Side so getting there required 3 subways. Real pain. Beautiful location though. Much prettier than Times Square. Apparently Shearman was once a very well respected firm and is now somewhat on the decline with a lot of people latteraling out. They had a very nice building though, fun art, cushy leather chairs, decent lunch. Nice recruiting staff too. Shared cabs back to campus to avoid the subway mess. Rallied the troops and travelled downtown with 4 Columbia grad student friends. Went to NYU's Koach for servies after meeting up with NYU buddies. The draw was that dinner afterwards at Puck was for 1000 people. Might be the biggest Jewish gathering I've seen outside of Israel (pro-Israel youth leadership march in Jerusalem was over 1000). It was deafening and blinding with the amount of motion in the room. Very disorienting. Couldn't really meet people. It was too much of a mad house. Like clubbing almost. The food was ok, as well as could be expected for free. Bacon bits on the salad. Kosher, but still very weird. We all went to one of my NYU friends' apartments to regroup after dinner and then went to the oneg in Weinstein Hall. Another mad house. Everyone seemed to be orthodox and anti social too. Bad scene. We left pretty quickly with one aquisition. Regrouped at my other NYU friend's apartment. Sadly she was out of booze. Most of the Columbia crowd went home at that point. Headed to a bar in Chelsea, The Park, and celebrated a CLS friend's birthday. It was like a who's who of the 1L class. Must have been 50 people there. Basic mixed drinks were $8 a piece. Pretty pricey especially after getting used to not paying for alcohol. Nice bar though. After hanging out there a while we went back to the first friend's house and tried to mix drinks. But she had no mixers. I got sent down to buy OJ and Cranberry juice at a deli. I always draw the short straw. After some vodka and Thai food, hung out until about 4:30. Walked back to the subway and somehow didn't get home until 6. The subway wouldn't stop anywhere near Columbia so I had to walk from 96th street. Saw some of the sunrise. Wasn't very happy about that. Pretty cold and a lot of walking. Good break from school though.
Admit Frenzy
Woke up at an ungodly hour and couldn't get back to sleep. Got up finally at 7:30. Worked on Journal citations until 8:30 and then showered and got dressed for class. The place was at a new low of digustingness, fortuately was scheduled for today. Went to breakfast with admits in Drapkin lounge. Gave my sales pitch many more times. Tried to find my crim law class but couldn't. To be honest I didn't try very hard. Wandered the halls chatting with people. Started seriously coveting the new book bags the admits were getting. Resolved to "appropriate" one somehow. Read my Reg State for a change. Decided halfway through it was a mistake and stopped. Had lunch with admits in the President's room. Really nice salmon buffet with a tasty cheesecake among other things. More sales pitching. Shmoozed a bit with the dean. I like Dean Schizer. He's a good guy. Missed Reg State. Skimmed the con law reading and attended, terrified that I'd get called on again without being fully prepared. Got spared though. Finished my citations after class. Also convinced the acting dean of admissions that I had done so much for the admissions office that I deserved a bag. Getting hooked up is nice. I don't know why I have a thing for these stupid book bags but I really like them. Maybe it's a fetish. There's probably a 12 step program for the condition. Anyway, finished up work somewhat and went to another admit reception in Drapkin lounge. More sales pitch. Losing my voice. Red wine didn't help that much, but at least I got my daily tanins :-P Then went to a pizza dinner with JLSA at a neighbor's apartment. Not a lot of attendance by admits. I was pretty full too. From there went to Bistro Ten 18 for Shearman Sterling's reception. I really like that restaurant, but I was stuffed to the gills. Had a Brandy Alexander and chatted with friends while popping the occasional morsel until a tipsy classmate bumped into me. She apparently hadn't eaten in some time and one drink had done her in. It wouldn't be cool to let her embarass herself in front of the partners (who seemed pretty cool) so I helped her to a corner to rehydrate and get some bread in her. Eventually the firm people caught us but I had some friends create a diversion while I snuck her out. Must have mentioned something about biotech though. Relevant later. Helped her out of the bar and over to the bus station. It was really cold out with the wind chill but she refused to take a cab so I saw to it that she got on her bus. Too bad it was the wrong bus, headed uptown instead of downtown. Alcohol can lead to these sorts of mistakes. By the time I realized she was headed in the wrong direction it was too late, the bus was gone. She got a cab home in the end so it turned out fine. And I made a new friend, which I'm always happy to do. She IMed later that night with a contact for me at Kirkland Ellis. She remembered I was interested in tech and had a friend at the firm. I emailed over my grades and resume. Hopefully something will come of it, but it's pretty late for a big firm like that to be recruiting.
Admit Entertaining
Barely late to perspectives this morning. Went to the gym afterwards. More weights and less running. Got cleaned up and had lunch with Professor Murphy. He wrote me a letter of rec for a scholarship. Very nice of him. Buying me lunch was nice too. We went to faculty house and I had Tilapia, sweet and sour style. It's an African fish. Never tried it before. I looked it up and discovered it was kosher. It tastes sort of sweet. I liked it. Anyway, went to reg state after lunch and paid attention since I didn't have my computer with me. It was a decent class. Crammed the con law reading and went to that class. Got called on and asked about cases I read days ago and didn't remember. Friends bailed me out on IM. Thank God for friends and wireless internet. Got by reasonably ok I think. Took care of some loose ends after class and then led a tour of the school at 5. It was kinda fun. Answered admits questions and went to a reception with them at 6. Not great food or bar. I'm used to better. When I was an admit it seemed pretty cool. Now I'm spoiled. Hung out with a friend after and talked at her place for a few hours. Missed the LALSA party. Kinda sad about that. Dropped into Appletree MArket on the way home cuase I was famished. Ordered a burger. It took them like half an hour to make it. Crappy service. Bah. Came home and ate and emailed. Sooo much work to do.
Ropes & Gray
Went to class then the gym (with a few poker games stuck in between). 20 minutes on the ellypticals and a few pullups. Rather sad workout to be honest. Bought my lunch for a change. Salad at Hamilton's. The damn thing cost me over $8. Not doing that again. Did my con law reading and such. Skipped reg state as usual. Lot of email going around to deal with. Tried to set up the BD interview again but I'm playing phone tag. Worked on moot court and journal citations all afternoon. Took a break for Ropes & Gray in Drapkin lounge. Not a great reception. Bad food. Felt mildly ill after. Got a free bookbag at least. Went to journal meeting from there and had cookies. Didn't make me feel any better. Spent the next few hours in the library cite checking. Miserable. Time to crash.
